In San Francisco, morning light filled a busy worktable. Steve Jobs spotted a box of loose wires and tiny parts. He reached for it.

He tipped the box over. CLATTER! Wires and shining pieces spilled across the table. “What can these do?” he wondered.

He twisted two wires together. A little bulb blinked once—then popped out with a tiny POOF! He jumped back.

He scooped up every piece. Then he tried again, slower this time. “Not finished,” he thought.

First arrangement: click. Nothing. Second arrangement: buzz. Nothing. Third arrangement: the box rolled away!

The box bumped a cup. CLONK! He laughed and chased it across the table.

He connected the pieces in one more way. This time, the parts began to whir, flash, and roll.

The little machine rolled in a silly circle like a metal bug. Steve Jobs stared, then reached for more pieces.

Soon, he carried the whirring machine into a bright world of technology. New screens, tools, and ideas filled the room.

He kept asking questions. He kept testing ideas. Across the bright room, more pieces waited—and new inventions began to take shape.
