Maple rode in her carrier to the vet. Her tail puffed up like a bottlebrush.

Bella carried Maple inside, past barking dogs. Maple let out a small "mrrp?" on the cool metal table.

Two weeks later, Maple wore a big plastic cone. The cone bumped her bowl and kibble scattered everywhere.

She batted at a dangling toy string. The cone knocked it away before she could reach it.

Maple tried to squeeze under the kitchen table. The cone bonked against the leg. She let out an annoyed "mrrow!"

Maple flopped onto the rug and stared at the ceiling fan spinning above her.

Bella knelt beside Maple and unclipped the cone. Maple's ears perked up.

Maple trotted to her food bowl and ate without a single kibble falling out. She leaped onto the windowsill and purred so loudly the window rattled.
