Leo chased his yellow balloon along the pier. Whoosh! A taxi roared by and blew it high into the sky.

Leo spun around. He was on a windy pier. His ice cream hit the ground with a loud splat. He stared at the puddle.

A ferry bobbed at the end of the pier. Leo ran. Sneakers slapped the wood. The ferry hissed, and the doors slid open.

Inside, Leo ducked under a pole and weaved between tall legs. Nobody looked down.

Through the window, he saw her — the Statue of Liberty. Her torch shone against the gray water.

He stopped hiding. He marched to the crew member and tapped her shiny boot. "Can you call my dad?"

The crew member laughed and dialed. Leo heard his dad's voice crackle from the speaker. "There you are!"

Leo hopped off the ferry. His dad's red car waited by the curb. He dove in and held up the crumpled map. The ferry honked goodbye.
